Everton ruing no VAR in Carabao Cup as Doncaster goal appears offside

Everton are in trouble in the Carabao Cup as they find themselves 1-0 down against League Two Doncaster Rovers.

Everton have travelled to the Eco-Power Stadium hoping to boost their confidence after three losses in a row in the Premier League – but they’re staring down the barrel of a humiliation with Joe Ironside’s header putting Doncaster ahead.

However, Sean Dyche will be pulling imaginary hair out when he looks back at the goal as the striker appeared to be offside.

While it was shocking defending from the set-piece, had VAR been involved, the goal would have surely not stood.

Nevertheless, Everton have not deserved anything more after yet another lifeless display in the first-half.

They managed just one shot on target in the opening 45 minutes while Doncaster managed 11 in total.

The Toffees have not scored a goal this season and are rock bottom of the Premier League.

However, many believed that they still might have enough to make it past Doncaster, who are bottom of League Two.

Like Everton, Rovers have yet win a match this season but their goal on Wednesday night has given them the chance to claim a famous victory.

And the home fans were not giving the Everton manager much respite as they started up chants of ‘you’re getting sacked in the morning’.

While it is not known what was said in the away dressing room at half-time, Dyche was clearly not pleased when the sides came back out.

The former Burnley boss made a triple substitution as Youssef Chermiti, Nathan Patterson and Lewis Dobbin were all replaced by Beto, Ashley Young and Idrissa Gueye.

It also makes the Carabao Cup clash Beto’s debut for Everton after signing from Udinese for £30million.

The Brazilian, who scored 10 Serie A goals last season, has been brought in to bolster a misfiring strikeforce at Goodison Park this season.
