Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford was on hand to secure a crucial point for his side with a sensational double save.
The Toffees travelled to Sheffield United off the back of three defeats in their opening Premier League fixtures.
A late mid-week win over Doncaster Rovers in the Carabao Cup would have offered them some confidence en route to Bramall Lane.
Sheffield United and Everton went on to settle for a 2-2 draw, but the hosts could have won all three points if it wasn’t for Pickford.
Deep into second-half stoppage time, the England goalkeeper pulled off two incredible saves to secure a much-needed point for the Toffees.
He tipped his first onto the crossbar, with the second coming off his face and onto the post before he claimed the ball in his hands.
Oli McBurnie was denied in both attempts of a late winner and was left baffled as to how he didn’t score.
Pickford, as he has done many teams, came to the rescue of Everton despite scoring an own-goal earlier in the match.
And the England goalkeeper made sure to rub it in, mocking the home faithful with a hilarious gesture as he held onto the ball.
Sean Dyche’s side took the lead after 14 minutes thanks to Abdoulaye Doucoure’s close-range finish.
Cameron Archer netted the hosts’ equaliser and then assisted their second, with his shot off the post hitting Pickford and going in.
The draw was sealed ten minutes into the second half as Arnaut Danjuma headed to make it 2-2.
Everton will now return to Merseyside with their first point of the season in the bag.
However, two tough fixtures await them on their return from the international break as they host Everton and then face Brentford.
Pickford’s heroic abilities in goal may very well need to be called upon yet again as Dyche’s side look to avoid another relegation battle.
