Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey could be set to spend ‘a while’ on the sidelines due to a groin injury.
It means that the Gunners will be without the 30-year-old for the visit of Manchester United on Sunday.
Partey has started in all of Arsenal’s opening three Premier League games this season, with Mikel Arteta playing him at right-back.
Fulham’s late goal in the 2-2 draw last weekend was the only thing preventing the north London side from having a 100 per cent record.
United, who have looked unconvincing despite winning twice thus far, are up next for Arteta and co.
However, Arsenal will have to make do without Partey for the crucial clash as a result of yet another injury.
Although the club have not confirmed anything themselves, the Ghanaian FA said in a statement: “Arsenal ace Thomas Partey is left out of the squad due to injury.
“According to his club, the player picked up an injury in training and could be on the sidelines for a while, however the Black Stars medical teams is monitoring the situation.”
Another statement added: “He sustained a groin injury during training on Thursday, August 31, 2023. He is currently unavailable as Club Doctors predict he’s likely to be out for a couple of weeks.”
It’s not the first time that Partey has been absent from the Arsenal squad for a crucial match.
He missed their first Premier League clash against Manchester City last season, in which Pep Guardiola’s side won 3-1.
Partey proved key for Arsenal in the previous campaign and is likely to remain an important part of the squad.
However, Arteta may have to rethink his tactics against United and could instead choose to play Takehiro Tomiyasu at right-back.
Ben White can also play in that role but all of his appearances in the Premier League this season have come at centre-back.
